Doctors' Biographies
JOHN I FOSTER, III, MDis an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and is the founder of Atlanta based Dominion Orthopaedics. He specializes in arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder and knee as well as of the hand and upper extremity. Dr. Foster has twenty years of experience as an orthopaedic surgeon and is well versed in the treatment of the full range of orthopaedic conditions in adults and children and welcomes all orthopaedic patients into his practice.He earned his BS degree in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University and then served as a fighter pilot in the US Navy flying F-4 and F-14 carrier based aircraft as well as serving as a test director for the F-18 aircraft. He subsequently earned his doctorate in medicine from the University of Virginia. In addition to his residency performed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital he underwent further training in sports medicine with Frank Noyes, MD at Cincinnati Sports Medicine. Dr. Foster also pursued additional training in joint replacement at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, an affiliate of the Harvard University health system. Following his training Dr. Foster served as chief of orthopaedics at Newport Naval Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island and was the team doctor for the Naval Academy Prep School. He ultimately retired from the Navy having attained the rank of captain and has been in the private practice of orthopaedic surgery in Atlanta since 1994. Dr. Foster is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He has served as a member of the Georgia State Board of Worker's Compensation Medical Advisory Committee and has been a recent Chief of Staff at Emory Dunwoody Hospital in Atlanta. His current staff privileges include St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta and Northside Hospital.
JEFFREY J. KOVACIC, MDrecently joined the physician team at Dominion Orthopaedic Clinic, LLC. At Dominion, Dr. Kovacic treats orthopaedic conditions in all ages, performs surgical and non-operative treatment of injuries and is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine. Dr. Kovacic earned his baccalaureate degree from The Ohio State University and his medical degree from Wright State University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency and sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.Dr. Kovacic is the former assistant team physician for the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, Indians and The Gravity Games. In addition, he has been named team physician for Northview High School and The Junior Titans. Dr. Kovacic is a member of the American Acacemy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery & Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Sports Health Warthog Society. ERIC S. STEENLAGE, MDis an orthopedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. He obtained his BS degree in microbiology from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. During undergraduate college he was awarded the Goldwater Congressional Scholarship and graduated with highest honors. He attended medical school at Yale University School of Medicine. While at Yale he completed his thesis studying the epidemiology of severe trauma injuries in Quito, Ecuador.After graduating from Yale, Dr. Steenlage completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. During his residency, he helped provide medical coverage for the University of Kentucky SEC athletic teams, AHL professional hockey team, equestrian events, and several local high school teams. In addition, Dr. Steenlage completed a one-year fellowship specializing in Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the Humboldt University / Charite Hospital in Berlin, Germany. While there, he was a team physician for the champion Berlin Thunder of the NFL Europe football league. Dr. Steenlage also initiated and was involved in several research projects developing new knee surgical techniques, particularly involving ACL reconstruction, and holds patents on several knee ligament reconstruction devices. Dr. Steenlage remains active in ACL surgical research and serves as a co-editor of the Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery journal. Dr. Steenlage is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. |
